I agree that the federal government is not a helpful presence in education. It is better handled locally. As it turns out, this is a principle with many applications. The one that interests me is fertility. We have long been told that there are too many children in the world, but a look at modern statistics shows that the birth rate has been unsustainably low in the developed world for a generation.
As it turns out, a degree of kinship between partners is required for normal fertility. And the kinship is remarkably close. Within an order of magnitude, a one room schoolhouse is a good approximation of the social horizon a child can have if the community is to survive.
I am attaching a draft of a poster I plan to present in Vancouver next month to the meeting of the American College of Medical Genetics. (I cannot promise. Last year I was thrown out of the meeting of the Genetics Society of America without any valid reason given. I think that was extreme and do not expect it to happen again.)
The poster gives my evidence. Look it over and please let me know what you think.
